Brewing news Australia: Coopers Brewery sales up 13.6% in FY 2005/06

Coopers Brewery says thwarting a hostile takeover bid helped to boost its sales in the 2005/06 financial year, The Age posted July 18.

The privately owned company said sales rose 13.6 per cent in the last financial year.

The South Australian family-owned brewer said a failed hostile takeover bid by Lion Nathan last year had boosted the profile of Coopers.

"While stressful at the time, there is no doubt that the takeover bid increased the profile of the Coopers brand and encouraged drinkers to try our products," Coopers chairman Glenn Cooper said.

"The huge media interest in the unsuccessful takeover bid also means that many consumers outside of South Australia are now aware that Coopers is a truly national beer."

Mr Cooper said the company's increased sales came at a time when overall beer consumption in Australia was static.
